Planner Spotlight: Katie McCann Crow, Collins Coordination

04.12.16

Learn more about Katie below!

What is your favorite memory with Debby, or The Branch?
I had a client who showed Debby a picture of a vine that isn’t sold wholesale and Debby offered to drive down alleys and do a little trimming to get some. Fortunately we found an alternative vine but the offer was so Debby – always going above and beyond!!

Do you have a favorite flower?
Juliet garden roses

How did you get into event planning?
While at TCU I interned for an event company in Dallas and was offered a fulltime job upon graduation.

What do you love about event planning?
I love the combination of logistics with creativity. It really uses both sides of my brain!

Give us the story on how your company came to be?
After I left the event company, friends called me to help plan their weddings. I was working for an insurance company but missed the creativity of planning. I decided to take a huge risk (which is unlike me!) and start my own business. I was really fortunate at how quickly I started booking weddings but the first few months I was a little worried that I might eat Ramen noodles for the rest of my life!

Where do you find inspiration?
In the age of Pinterest, it’s easy to see the same ideas over and over again. I love pulling ideas from décor magazines, coffee table books, and traveling. A huge part of a wedding is the guests’ experience and hotels and restaurants are a great source of inspiration for a custom, luxurious experience. [Read more…]

Vendor Spotlight: Jeff and Amanda, Splendor Films

04.05.16

Amanda-Jeff-1-1024x661

One of the more unique vendors we love to work with are Videographers. A wedding video can capture all the heart-felt emotions and speeches shared by your loved ones, and of course, your significant other. This husband and wife duo, owners of Splendor Films, not only make an amazing end product, but they capture the couple’s big day in a unique and special way. We love to see what these two can create! Here are a few of the recent events we’ve worked with them on:

Amanda + Logan
Charlotte + Derrick

What is your favorite memory with Debby, or The Branch?
It is so hard to pick just one- every single creation of Debby’s is more unique than anything I’ve seen before. One of the most memorable was Kensey and Ross’s southern wedding at the classic Arlington Hall. I mean, Magnolia branches, pastel colored floral mixed with soft whites, and the fragrance of real peaches were everywhere that day. Debby had even wrapped the staircase rails to the cocktail hour fully in magnolia leaves mixed with soft peonies, hydrangeas, tulips and peaches which made the most elegant and graceful statement. Plus, the fact that Debby had so beautifully honored the couple’s Georgia and southern roots couldn’t have felt any more personal (and grand!).

How did you get into videography?
We were both creative students in college- Amanda started out in photography as she was traversing Europe for her International Business degree and I loved making films with my friends as fun as a way to capture the moment. I began to realize I had a keen talent in film production and editing, switched my major, then the rest is history! I worked for a local production company before I realized that I wanted to take my love of telling stories to couples and families. The idea of capturing the biggest day of a couple’s journey together was something that really intrigued me- and I haven’t looked back.

What do you love about your job?
We are continually inspired by the love our couples show us. Filming a wedding can be high-pressure, but we get to combine our love of filmmaking with our love of telling stories on the best day of someone’s life! How cool is it that we get to continually be witnesses to genuine happiness and love? On top of that, not only do we get to be there, but we get to capture it and preserve it knowing that future generations will get to “be there” as well. Nothing makes us more happy than knowing our couples chose our lens to tell their love story.

Venue Spotlight: The Belo Mansion

03.22.16

Located in Downtown Dallas, The Belo Mansion and Pavilion is another venue we work with quite often. This historic venue fits a variety of styles and can accustom up to 350 guests. With so many different spaces available including Colonel Belo’s study, the newest addition of the pavilion, and the bar, you are able to choose which will work best for your event! From weddings to corporate company dinners, we have styled out this space numerous times and loved the end result every time.

A little history about The Belo:

The Mansion was built in the late 1800’s by Colonel Alfred Horatio Belo. A little fun fact about this man – he also founded the Dallas Morning News! He wanted this home to resemble his family home in North Carolina as a tribute to his wife. Contractor Daniel Morgan, who also built the Dallas County Courthouse, or “Old Red,” made sure to finish the construction just in time for Colonel Belo’s sons wedding.  The house was sold to the Dallas Bar Association in 1977 and restored to perfection!

Here are a few of our past designs at this venue!

What is your favorite memory with Debby or The Branch?
I delivered candelabras to an event for Debby, but had never met her.  I liked her a lot when we spoke.  Meeting her in person is really special.  Setting up for an event is busy and there is never tons of time to chat.  However, Debby always takes the time to make you feel special and give you a big hug.  She is always the calm force and makes set-up tons of fun.  The first time we met, Debby had to leave the reception area and go to the church.  Before leaving, she stepped back, stopped, looked around the room, and then said, “Oh, yes!  This is beautiful!”  I was really tickled by her enthusiasm.  She was right.  When the flowers were placed on my candelabras I almost started to cry!  Her floral designs are exquisite.  I thought, wow, she really gets these candelabras.

Do you have a favorite flower?
I love all flowers!  I could never just pick one.  Flowers are one of my favorite things in the world. Let me narrow it to a few: hydrangeas, roses, peonies, tulips, anemone, amaryllis and greenery.  I am just crazy about filler flowers and greenery. [Read more…]
