One of the more unique vendors we love to work with are Videographers. A wedding video can capture all the heart-felt emotions and speeches shared by your loved ones, and of course, your significant other. This husband and wife duo, owners of Splendor Films, not only make an amazing end product, but they capture the couple’s big day in a unique and special way. We love to see what these two can create! Here are a few of the recent events we’ve worked with them on:
Amanda + Logan
Charlotte + Derrick
How did you get into videography?
We were both creative students in college- Amanda started out in photography as she was traversing Europe for her International Business degree and I loved making films with my friends as fun as a way to capture the moment. I began to realize I had a keen talent in film production and editing, switched my major, then the rest is history! I worked for a local production company before I realized that I wanted to take my love of telling stories to couples and families. The idea of capturing the biggest day of a couple’s journey together was something that really intrigued me- and I haven’t looked back.
What do you love about your job?
We are continually inspired by the love our couples show us. Filming a wedding can be high-pressure, but we get to combine our love of filmmaking with our love of telling stories on the best day of someone’s life! How cool is it that we get to continually be witnesses to genuine happiness and love? On top of that, not only do we get to be there, but we get to capture it and preserve it knowing that future generations will get to “be there” as well. Nothing makes us more happy than knowing our couples chose our lens to tell their love story.
Amanda and I were partners in life before we came to be partners in film. One of Amanda’s friends was getting married and I wanted to try out a concept for a story-centered wedding film. They gave me the okay, so I brought my camera and captured their story. Everyone loved what I put together, so I started to find more couples who would allow me to capture their day. My previous filmmaking experience taught me to adapt to situations and think quickly- which is so different than a usual production situation and so valuable for special events. I brought Amanda onboard to help me and quickly realized that we made a fantastic team. We joke that we mindmeld when we work together, and it’s so true- usually she knows what I am thinking before I even vocalize it- so I wouldn’t have our Splendor Films team be any other way.
We find inspiration in the honesty that our couples show on their wedding day. Capturing raw and genuine moments allows us to work personal emotion into a visual and audible story that is unique to each and every couple. We couldn’t do this in any other setting than a wedding day where love is the focus. Our couples truly inspire us in every aspect of our filmmaking- from the way we shoot, to what we focus on, to the sound bytes that we use, to the soundtrack that we choose. If we didn’t have couples who opened up to us, we wouldn’t be able to deliver an heirloom film that will still be as true to our couples fifty years later.
Our clients will never have a stuffy or out of the box experience with us. When we meet with our clients, we focus the most on fit since not only will we be spending the entire wedding day by their side, but we will also be telling their unique story. By practicing openness with our clients, we can focus on what makes us unique and how that will translate to a unique wedding film for each of our clients. You don’t want your wedding viewed through a “canned” lens or a stranger’s perspective that doesn’t fit YOUR personal style, and we want to make sure that the connection is there so our clients never have to worry about a fake experience.
Choose a cinematographer that fits with your personality and works well with other vendors. This person will be right by you and your photographer’s side pretty much the entire day and you do not want someone who will put any sort of stress on the day or challenge the outcome of your photos.
We are huge board and party game fanatics. It usually doesn’t matter the game, but we love to play with friends, family, or even acquaintances. You will often even catch us traveling with a deck of cards, you know, just in case. Amanda can really rock a game of Taboo where I am a bit more of a Cards Against Humanity winner.
Jeff: Whatever Amanda likes.
