What is your favorite memory with The Branch, or Debby?
It’s been an honor to work on many beautiful weddings with The Branch, but my favorite experience was working together to plan the flowers for my own wedding. Debby, my mom and I had a blast working through some of my crazy ideas and scaling down to the most vivid, colorful, and cheeky flowers a girl could ask for. Every meeting was so fun, and all led to a final product of which I am truly proud.
How did you get into stationery and paper goods?
I used to work in Advertising as an Art Director, which means I worked on ideas for TV commercials and designed print advertisements, from magazine ads to billboards and catalogs. At the end of 2006, my best friend from high school, Dana, was planning her wedding, and as my gift to her, I offered to design her wedding invitations. The next April, my nephew was born, and I designed a custom birth announcement for him. After that, I was hooked on designing paper goods celebrating life’s happiest occasions. I worked on growing my hobby into a full-time business by working nights, weekends, and lunch hours for two years, and left the Advertising world in 2011 to launch Stamped Paper Co. as my full-time job! It’s been the best five years
What do you love about your job?
I love meeting my clients and learning about their unique story and style, and bringing it to life on paper. While I adore designing, the biggest joy is designing for people who may start as strangers, but soon turn into friends. I have the honor of being a stationer, but also a trusted friend during an important chapter of their life, and that is very meaningful to me. Many of my clients have even invited me to their weddings, and it’s amazing to see everything come to life on their special day!
Where do you find inspiration?
Inspiration is everywhere! Of course, many people and brides especially find inspiration on Pinterest and in magazines. I encourage my clients to keep their eyes open for inspiration in unexpected places, like their closet, jewelry box, hotels, catalogs, etc. You never know where a pattern, color combo, or print may catch your eye. I once had a bride tear out a page in a catalog of a rug, and we used inspiration from the pattern on the rug for her envelope liner, wedding program, table numbers and more. Personally, I find inspiration at the mall! I love looking at the bright colors and fabrics, window displays, and even the graphics of “sale” signs.
What can a client expect when they visit your office?
When a client walks into the Stamped studio, they can expect first seeing me, welcoming them, but then, a variety of invitations and art grazing the walls. We have lots of our favorite invitations on display, as well as some of our favorite “party extras” like koozies, napkins, photo booth props, and of course, a few bottles of champagne.
What is your top tip for a bride/client when planning their paper goods?
When clients are planning their paper goods, I always tell them that the paper goods are your guests’ first glimpse of what to expect for the weekend. So, if you’re having a formal wedding, make sure your invitation sets that tone. If you’re on a ranch and want everyone to wear boots, maybe your invitation has a different look and feel. And on a personal level, this literally has YOUR name(s) on it, so make it yours. The invitation and photos are one of the only pieces from your wedding you can hold in your hand after it’s all over, so choose something you will love forever over what’s currently trending.
What’s one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
You might be surprised to learn that my two favorite things in life besides spending time with family and friends are designing and watching gymnastics. While I have always been a better fan than participant of the sport, I have been an avid fan of elite gymnastics for over 25 years! I travel around the country watching meets, and a highlight of my designing career was creating custom invitations for an Olympic champion gymnast!
What do you do to relax?
To relax, I love spending time with my husband, traveling around Texas eating barbecue. And he and I love to entertain our family and friends. We are always up for a party!
Do you have a favorite flower?
I love daffodils! They’re always such a gorgeous color and yellow is always a great color for a pick-me-up.
Here are some of the designs we have collaborated on for past weddings!
