In honor of today being National Boss’s Day, we of course want to recognize our amazing leader here at The Branch. Debby not only is the Creative Director, but our biggest cheerleader and definitely an inspirational woman to work for. She incorporates her coaching skills into her leadership style and is always pushing her employees to their fullest potential. From installing events to working with designers in the studio, she is always encouraging you along the way!
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, she started her career as a Physical Education teacher and volleyball coach. In 2000, her desire to change careers landed her in the floral design world, where she definitely belonged. After having the opportunity to work along side some of DFW’s best in the business, she launched Branching Out Floral & Event Design in her own home. Now, almost 7 years later her business has landed in it’s second studio, gained some pretty major press, and has developed the reputation of true southern hospitality.
Working with Debby never has a dull moment, especially with her Texas can-do attitude and
electric personality. Her and her husband, Mike, have 2 amazing kids, Maddie and Spencer, a St.Bernard, Max and cats, Rosie and Fritz. When’s she not at The Branch, she loves to spend time with her family, going on adventures and biking!
“I met her in 2005, her daughter and my son are the same age, they were about 18 months old. She hosted a dinner party/wine tasting and started a club in the neighborhood. I remember being blown away. She had made this very intimate setting in her back yard with a huge table that sat 20ish people and decorated it to the nines. The meal was unbelievable and that is when our friendship really took off. Since then there have been lots of laughs, some tears, joining of families and developing a wonderful friendship. I now have the honor to work with her at the company she has built. She inspires me daily and most of all makes me laugh! Love you Deb. ” –Yolanda Taylor
“One of my favorite memories of many would have to be back in the day stripping roses on Debby’s back porch or loading a Uhaul trailer in the rain on a Friday morning so Debby could go install a big wedding by herself!” –Amanda Ferguson
“Interning for The Branch this past summer, I got tons of opportunities to watch Debby work and to work along side her and let me just say, it’s amazing. Her love and passion for her work and employees is contagious, and makes The Branch feel like a home away from home!” –Haley Knighton
“It has to be when Debby comes in every morning and greets you with her beautiful spirit and beautiful smile. It really makes the branch bright.” –Ayde Espinoza
“I have been helping Debby for a long time and it’s hard for me to think of my favorite memory. I am going to choose the day I met Debby and Amanda as my favorite memory!” –Jesse Mendoza-Beltran
“That ONE time she started spontaneously dancing and singing to no music! Ha, just kidding. That’s at every install and every day at the studio. Those are some of my favorite moments with Debby. We work hard at The Branch, we create amazing things, but we have fun while we do it and Debby is amazing at recognizing when the team just needs to take an energizing dance break! Observing and learning firsthand from a female business owner on a daily basis is an invaluable experience and one of my favorite things about working with Debby. She runs a multifaceted, adapting, quickly growing and successful company (not to mention balancing a healthy and happy family and personal life) and I learn incredible lessons from her and The Branch every day.” –Katy Roden
“I can’t think of one specific example but I can tell you what I most admire about her. She is such an authentic person. I think besides her raw creative talent and her analytical mind that allows her to figure out constructions, event installs, etc, the real secret to Debby’s success is her authenticity. Her basic setting is upbeat and happy. She is always in motion and when she has an idea she executes. She’s fun and funny and sincere. She’s a natural network and so genuine that people can’t help but like her. She is zany and silly and loves to goof around. The fact that she takes her work, but not her self too seriously, is attractive. The pace of this industry can be hectic and the pressure to deliver on someone’s special day is high, but Debby meets each week, each day, each event design and installation with enthusiasm and her amazing can-do spirit. Each client each person that meets Debby meets the real Debby. And to know her is to love her!” –Christine Horstman
