I have done a lot of hiring over the years, and while I rely on Behavioral Interviewing techniques to find the best candidates, there are times when you meet someone with a strong background who is so personable that you just know you have to grab them. That was the case with our summer intern, Haley Knighton.
Knowing we would be rebranding and launching our new website, I was thrilled to find someone with an interest in social media. To say that Haley was instrumental in pulling together our new website is an understatement! Haley handled the tedious task of uploading image after image with as much enthusiasm and efficiency as she would a more exciting project.
Haley will be a senior of the University of Texas at Arlington and will graduate in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies.
Read on to learn more about this remarkable, likable young woman.
Warning: we have first dibs on the job offers!
Tell us more about your major and your goals when you graduate
My major is communication studies with a focus in speech communication. We learn a lot about the importance of communication, problem solving and teamwork. My goals when I graduate are to find a career I can fall in love with and am able to grow with.
Favorite class or professor?
My favorite professor is Dr. Charla Markham Shaw because she gave us a huge dose of reality about being in the real world. Being seniors in college, most professors don’t necessarily prepare us for the world after graduation and how to incorporate what we learned into our careers. She was able to take all of the skills we acquired over our college days and teach us how to actually use them. She is always full of advice.
Favorite college memory?
My favorite college memory would have to be living in the sorority house watching movies with everyone piled onto the couches.
Tell us about your sorority.
Being in a sorority is what introduced me to my love of event planning. While holding multiple chairs, being a Vice President, and being in charge of mostly everything creative, I was able to plan and assist with putting together many different events from formals to banners to philanthropy events. My sorority taught me about leadership and a lot about myself as a woman. Go Delta Zeta!
What did you hope to get out of your internship before starting?
I hoped that I would get some real world experience and help guide me on the path of what I want to do.
Favorite part of being at The Branch?
My favorite part of being at The Branch is the atmosphere. I feel like it is my home away from home and can be myself while learning A LOT about this industry. Our mutual love of anything gold and glittery also makes it great!
Tell us about your dog.
I adopted my chocolate lab, Lola, about 6 months ago. She’s a little over a year old and loves to bounce/run all over the yard. She is a big cuddler and loves kisses. Her favorite thing is car rides with her head hanging out of the window.
Team Max or Team Hilde? [Woodrow’s ego is too big to have a team.]
Team Hilde (Girl Power).
What will you miss about college?
I will miss the ability to just pick up and go on adventures with no worries.
What do you do for fun?
I love doing anything outdoors (lake, fishing, hiking) and DIY projects.
