yellow and grey

my new favorite color combination is yellow and grey. in these pieces, i used simple, traditional flowers such as yellow spray roses, begonia blooms, and tulips mixed with the unexpected and random yellow  “billy balls.”

tip: these little quirky yarrow balls dry perfectly. after the event, you can pull them out, pop them in an opaque vase (so you don’t see the yuck stems) and never worry about watering them. how fun!

for finishing touches, i added silvery grey dusty miller foliage, minitaure succulents and fern fronds. the large container is a faux bois concrete planter. not the most feather-weight choice, but it’s perfect  for this stunning color combination.

the coordinating handwork was just as fun to create! this eye-popping bouquet would be perfect with a silvery grey, celadon or charcoal bridesmaid dress. and if the guys want something unique, what could be better than this boutonierre created with a yarrow ball and succulent.

tip: when you’re on a budget, repeating a cohesive theme throughout your event gives the decor more of an impact.  your guests are sure to connect the dots and notice the recurrent details in the areas where you spent your money, which give you more bang for your buck!

baby’s breath is back

not since the eighties have i seen baby’s breath used so often. the big difference, it’s got a more stylish presence in the 21st century. i prefer to use it in bundles or groupings. seen here, this pretty little nosegay has a handle wrapped in burnt orange velvet ribbon, detailed with a perfect row of white beads. these days, nosegays are the modern alternative to corsages.

on the tablescape shown below, baby’s breath adds a touch of  country chic to the setting.  used in clusters, it complements the white roses nicely.

i’m also a fan of using common flowers in uncommon ways for bigger impact. (i.e. not using baby’s breath for a whispy filler flower) otherwise, your guests might be reminded of the 80’s. and you wouldn’t want that, would you?

irresistable flowergirl

little ones are always fun to dress up for weddings, especially girlie girls.  this big brown eyed flowergirl wore a simple white floral halo created with sweet smelling stock blossoms and variegated miniature ivy. As an alternative to a basket of petals, she waved a floral ribbon wand. she’s sure to draw some attention walking down the aisle!
