I didn’t get to stay up and join in on all the fun the morning of the Royal Wedding. I knew it would be a long day at work, and I didn’t want to be tired going into it. You can bet though that it was the first thing I watched when I got home! Besides the dress {which I absolutely loved}, I was dying to see the bridal bouquet. I was definitely delighted with Katherine’s choice of flowers. The now Royal Duchess of Cambridge’s bouquet had an understated beauty to it, but I love that it also represented so much meaning. I read that Katherine was extremely involved when it came to the selection of flowers and what they stood for. Her bouquet consisted of:
- Hyacinth – Constancy of love
- Ivy – Fidelity; marriage; wedded love; friendship; affection
- Lily of the valley – Return of happiness
- Myrtle – the emblem of marriage; love.
- Sweet William – Gallantry {swoon!!}
It is reported that the myrtle stems in the bouquet were from a myrtle planted by Queen Victoria, in 1845, and from a plant grown from a sprig used in Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding bouquet, which had been rooted and grown into a shrub. This is an ongoing tradition in the British royal family. How awesome is that??!!! I have a whole new love for traditions now. The myrtle planted by Queen Victoria was from Prince Albert’s grandmother who presented her with a nosegay during one of her visit. The myrtle shrub is still growing at the Osborn House {the royal family retreat} today.
Ivy and Lily of the Valley were also the flowers from Katherine’s mum {I”m writing this with a British accent by the way} wedding in 1981. I can’t wait to see how this will affect the trend of flowers for weddings.
…and they live happily ever after!

The color experts at Pantone have released their pick for the “color of the year” for 2011, Pantone 18-2120, also known as Honeysuckle. The company explains why it represents our current times here. I am personally over the moon with excitement for this redish shade of pink. I find it uplifting and full of youth. Below is a fun little inspirations board inspired by this “brave new color”.
Cheers to an amazing 2011 filled with bold adventures and all kinds of fun.
